Barack Obama on Taxes

During the 2008 United States presidential election Barack Obama has talked greatly about how the current tax system has been working. This is an issue that is especially important with the United States economy being in as difficult of a position as it is. The views of Barack Obama on taxes involving helping to tax wealthier companies and to help with relieving some tax burdens.

First, Obama plans to give tax credits to middle class tax payers. His proposal would involve rebates of $500 per person and a thousand dollars for each family. These would work as payroll tax credits.

Also, in response to the difficult mortgage crisis that is impacting the United States economy and home market Obama plans on using a tax credit. He is a strong supporter of the creation of a ten percent mortgage tax credit. This credit would work for all types of mortgages.

Gas prices have been incredibly high in recent years. Because of this many are arguing for a tax holiday. Obama, however, voted against creating a suspension of the federal gas tax during the summer of 2008. Obama did this because he feels that oil companies would have ended up gouging prices after the tax holiday was finished. Also, he feels that a quick fix like this would have saved the average consumer only a handful of dollars during the summer.

Obama also plans to create stronger tax standards to larger companies that earn more money. There are all sorts of loopholes in the tax code for larger industries. He plans to help with increasing taxes on oil and gas companies so that these companies can look to get their plans controlled so that they will bill less money and therefore be taxed less.

Obama is a strong supporter of keeping the United States economy at home. He plans to add taxes to companies that send profits overseas.

The last of the parts of Obama’s tax plans is that he plans to eliminate all income taxes for all senior citizens that make less than fifty thousand dollars in the course of a year. The process of filing taxes for these people would be much easier as a result. This is especially the case for those who are unable to get enough money off of Social Security or any other governmental services.

The work of Barack Obama on taxes would be work that helps the United States economy. The plans that Obama has include helping to give tax credits and to help with mortgage taxes. He also plans to give more taxes to businesses that earn more or send their money overseas. These plans are all essential for the United States economy.
